After recently reviewing different outdoor recliners, I have actually been testing several over the last few years, as well as traditional sun loungers. I thought that the best zero gravity chairs deserved their own guide and review as they do come into their own with the added health benefits and zero gravity position when fully reclined.
To give some background information, I have several zero-gravity chairs, I have purchased over the years, and my mum and dad also own a couple of models so I’ve personally used at least five models over the last three years. It was actually my Lafuma Relax Rt2 Zero Gravity Chair that really impressed me. This is when I truly appreciated what a zero gravity chair is and three years in, it is still my top choice when it comes to zero gravity chairs. It really was a game changer and the model I recommend to family and friends. It always becomes a talking point at BBQs in summer, nearly as much as my Char-Broil advance gas BBQ. It makes the best food!
If you are buying a zero gravity chair for health reasons (this is where they really show their worth if you suffer from back pain or sore joints), this is the model you need, as pictured above, left and below. When it comes to the build quality in terms of materials and comfort (more on this in the review further down), it really is hard to beat. I’ve had the one pictured below for almost three years, and it’s still like new. When you have it in the true zero gravity position, you really do feel weightless. It’s amazing and super comfortable.
First, you need to understand that zero gravity chairs are different from standard recliners. In fact, they have health benefits and are often recommended by doctors for health reasons. Basically, they have proven to be good for blood circulation as well as alleviate any back or joint pain. I do have trouble with back pain, which is why I decided to pay the extra and try the Lafuma Relax Rt2 Zero Gravity Chair in the first place, as this was designed by health professionals from the ground up, and someone recommended it recommended.
The only downside is the price, they’re are not exactly cheap. Lafuma does a range of different zero gravity chairs, some are more padded, think they even do extra wide versions. The one I have been using is probably the most affordable, but I still paid around £85 each for them so there not what you call cheap. I have seen other Lafuma models at around £200 with padded chairs. For me though, the Texplast fabric is very comfortable and it does have the head pillow.
If you want something a little cheaper, I recommend one of two models. The first is this Garden Market Place Padded Recliner. These are padded, and the price means there are a bargain and come in a set of two. These are the usual Chinese recliners, but they’re definitely better than most alternatives I seen in B&Q, Homebase and other retail stores. The only downside is the locking mechanism; it’s not great and doesn’t lock very well. However, it’s good enough, it just wont lock super tight like it does on the Lafuma Relax Rt2 Zero Gravity Chair.
Failing that, this pair of AmazonBasics Padded Zero Gravity Chairs is a good alternative to the Garden Market Place Recliners. Like the Garden Market recliners, there certainly comfortable. It’s worth noting they are also wider than most recliners, probably the widest now I think about it. Probably better suited to larger people, with plenty of space.

Top 5 Zero Gravity Chair Reviews
1. Lafuma Relax Rt2 Zero Gravity Chair
BEST PICK
So when it comes to zero gravity recliners, there are a lot of choices. However, when it comes to quality, well-made recliners that are actually comfortable to a point that you can actually have a nap on them, you really can’t beat this Lafuma Relax Rt2 Zero Gravity Chair. I absolutely love mine.
The problem is, from pictures, it’s very difficult to see the difference between a zero gravity chair that is £80 for a pair and one that is £80 for just one recliner. You really need to see and feel them in person to really appreciate them. I’ll try my best to describe why it really is what I think is the best recliner, at least for the price.
Let’s talk about build quality, firstly the frame is made from powder-coated 20mm steel tubing. The finish is far superior to the other recliners I have had over the years that seem to rust within a season or two. However, 3 years in and there is still no sign of rust, although I don’t leave them out all year round.
It then has a Texplast fabric that is attached to the frame using a lacing system. You can remove the fabric, although this is something I have not personally done. On previous recliners, the lacing and fabric are usually the first part to go, but the Texplast fabric and lacing have lasted with no signs of wear or tear. It’s also worth noting that the Texplast fabric also dries very quickly and is UV protected too. If you are wondering, the colour I have is called Chataigne which is a chestnut colour. There are a few colours to choose from if this is not to your test.
There is also a sliding head pillar that is also made from the same fabric. It’s a nice touch and adds to the comfort.
As already mentioned earlier, this recliner has been designed by health professionals and is designed to recline to 127 degrees for a true zero gravity feel. This means your legs are slightly above your heart which helps with blood circulation and is also the best position for relaxing.
Talking of reclining, the mechanism design is probably the best I have seen, and it actually works very well. It’s a simple sliding lever, as shown in the picture above. You simply rotate them outwards to lock the recliner in your desired tilt angle. Most other models other have an armrest that lifts up, and then you have a set amount of angles that click into position or have a knob that you turn. None of these have been anywhere near as well designed as this system the Lafuma zero gravity chairs uses.
As you can see above, there are some plastic parts. However, they’re all good quality, strong plastic parts. I really can’t stress how good the build quality is. I think it comes down to the fact that there made in France rather than China. Lafuma definitely made premium products!
When opening my Lafuma Rt2 chair is quite different from other recliners I’ve used. You almost have to recline and then put it into the seat position. Something I do like is while most recliners simply fall open when picked up, this one actually stays securely closed until you’re ready to use it, so it doesn’t start opening when taking it from the garage with one hand. To open it, place one hand on the backrest and the other on the armrest and push firmly until it’s fully open. It may take a bit of practice to get the hang of it, as there is a knack to it.
Pros
- Powder-coated 20mm steel tubed frame for enhanced strength and durability
- Waterproof and UV resistant for outdoor use
- Comfortable Texplast fabric seat and padded headrest
- Elastic lacing secures seat to frame for added stability
- Zero gravity position of 127° promotes relaxation and improved circulation
- Compact foldable design for easy storage
- Generous weight capacity of 140kg
- 5-year guarantee for added peace of mind
Final Conclusion
After careful consideration and extensive use, and lots of testing. I can confidently recommend the Lafuma Relax Rt2 Recliner. It’s, without a doubt, my favourite! Not only is it well-made and comfortable to relax on, but it’s very well-made.
Plus, I’ve not mentioned this yet, but it actually comes with a 5-year guarantee, so you can have peace of mind. While it may be pricier than some other alternatives, I personally believe that the quality and durability of this recliner make it well worth the extra cost. In fact, I would happily purchase more of these recliners in the future.
2. Garden Market Place Padded Garden Sun Lounger (Pair)
Runner-up
These Garden Market Place Padded Zero Gravity Chairs are some really comfortable loungers, for the price they really are amazing. They are are super comfortable to thanks to the 20mm polyester padding that is thicker than many other alternatives that use padding rather than being just a single thickness polyester type material.
Something to note, the material on these which is polyester is not the same as the Texplast fabric. It’s still quick drying, but you wouldn’t leave them out in the rain in winter like you can Texplast fabric. That being said I do store all my loungers under cover in winter.
So as just mentioned, the fabric of the chairs is a textiline polyester construction, making them weatherproof and durable, something that is important to cope with the UK weather, which is often hit and miss, at least in Manchester where I live. They can actually be left out in the summer, and they won’t even fade as they are UV protected. And when winter comes, simply fold them and store them in your garden storage box like I do or place them somewhere indoors, such as a shed or garage. If you need storage racking for them, I’ve recently tested a few different brands of racking and reviewed them here.
The fact that they come in a pair makes them great for couples, but it also means they are very good value for money so make a great pair or loungers if you just bought your first house for example. Each chair has an adjustment mechanism for lowering or raising the backrest depending on your needs. Then there’s a knob for locking your ideal position. The problem is the knob can be a little awkward to turn sometimes and its doesnt really work. It holds for a while but then it start to slowly move. It’s either sit down position or fully recline really. Just something to bare in mind but not really a deal breaker. This wasn’t a problem for me as I usually use then in the upright position or fully reclined to the full zero gravity position.
With the frame constructed from powder-coated steel, they are very solid chair, despite the arms and fixtures being made from plastic which are not as good quality as the plastic parts on the Lafuma. I think the bronze colour brings a touch of elegance to your outdoor space too. In terms of weight capacity, anyone well below 90kg will be able to lounge on these chairs comfortably.
Pros
- Features extra-thick polyester padding, which is more comfortable than standard textiline chairs.
- Durable powder-coated steel frame and textiline construction can be left out during summer.
- Folds up compact for easy, space-saving storage.
- Adjustable backrest with multiple locking positions.
- Comes at a good price and offers good value for money.
Cons
- The knob for adjusting the backrest height is a little difficult to turn sometimes and are not great at locking the recliner in position.
Our recommendation
These chairs are well-constructed, comfortable, and offer great value for money because they are sold in pairs and for not much more than the Lafuma recliners. Any couple or families who need high-quality loungers but more affordable these are what I would probably recommend.
The chairs score very well in many aspects, including ease of use, sturdiness, comfort, durability, and overall value. These are by far one of the best zero gravity chairs currently on the market for the price. If you don’t want to spend the extra on the Lafuma recliners or simply prefer a more padded seat, then these are what I would get.

3. AmazonBasics Outdoor Padded Zero Gravity Lounge Beach Chair
Now these are a great pair of loungers (from a brand you will without doubt of heard of) the AmazonBasics Padded Zero Gravity Chairs. They will make you feel weightless because of its convenient design, these are true zero gravity chairs like my Lafuma loungeris. This chair is perfect for outdoor use, and it’s pretty lightweight, making it a breeze to transport if you want to take them camping, to the beach or simply moving them from the shed or garage to your garden.
This pair are very strong thanks to a stainless steel frame that can support a huge weight capacity of 300 pounds. My dad is 16.5 stone and find them very comfortable with plenty of space. This frame benefits from powder coating that makes it highly resistant to rust, so it can provide years of service and won’t rust away after just 1 year like some of the cheaper alternatives.
There’s also a padded headrest to enhance comfort while you lay back on the chair. Moreover, the headrest is easily removable for cleaning or should you opt not to use it.
For optimum relaxation, they have a double bungee support system to make that possible. The fabric is premium quality Oxford cotton, which provides superior cushioning and strength. A nice addition to the design is a side cup holder so you can keep a cool drink within reach.
And when you’re done lounging outside, this piece of furniture is designed to fold to a compact size so you can store it in your garden shed. Choose from many colours including tan, red, blue or black, and take your relaxation to a whole new level.
Pros
- Reclines to several positions for optimal lounging.
- Offers safe and comfortable support due to a solid steel frame with a high-quality Oxford cotton fabric.
- Comes with a removable headrest pillow.
- Includes a cup holder to keep your drinks nearby.
- Foldable design for easy transport.
Cons
- Takes a while to dry so ideally should not be left out in the rain.
Our recommendation
If you’re considering purchasing zero gravity chairs and looking for an affordable pair, I highly recommend these! I purchased them towards the end of summer for my mum and dad and they’ve been extremely satisfied with them although they only had them 2 seasons now. Not only are they spacious and comfortable, but they’re also easy to open up and close. I wish I had gotten them sooner for them, as they’ve quickly become one of thier favorite sun loungers. We have a large family so they have quite a few sun loungers and chairs of different types.

4. DQCHAIR Outdoor Reclining Zero Gravity Chair (Single chair)
The DQCHAIR Outdoor Reclining Zero Gravity Chair is a high-quality single chair that looks very comfy even without you resting on it. With dimensions of 75cm x 72cm x 80cm ( L x W x H), it’s quite a larger and wider chair than most of the other loungers. This makes it perfect for some of those taller folks. It still can fold compact to 72cm x 98cm x 15cm (L x W x H) for space-saving storage.
The weight capacity is an impressive 200kg, which is huge for a single chair, and that’s due to a strong steel frame. In addition, the pearl cotton fabric of this chair is UV resistant and well ventilated in summer to reduce sweating, while you can add cushions to it in the colder seasons to lock in some warmth.
There’s a removable pillow on which you can rest your head instead of lying totally flat and you can always take it off when you sitting upright. Armrests will also provide that much needed comfort in your zero gravity position, whilst a utility cup holder on the side will allow you to have a bottle of beverage with you.
Another nice touch is the dual fingertip aluminium alloy locking system that allows you to lock the chair in any reclined position. This chair arrives ready to use with no assembly required and it is ideal for poolside relaxation if your lucky enough to have one (I don’t), on the patio, decking, balcony, or for even for campsite use.
Pros
- Premium UV resistant fabric, so won’t fade in the sun.
- A solid steel frame ensures great weight support.
- Larger and wider chair, perfect for big individuals.
- Multiple reclining positions with a locking system in place.
- Foldable for easy transportation.
- Suitable for a variety of places; patio, balcony, campsite, etc.
Cons
- Cushions are perhaps thinner than you might expect from seeing the picture.
- Quite expensive for a single chair.
Our recommendation
This chair is perfect for heavier individuals thanks to its large and wide design along with a cushion for extra comfort, although they may be a little thinner than you might expect, so bear this in mind.
It’s very sturdy and can stay outside in the summer. Moreover, it suits a variety of places. Though there are no instructions on how to use it, especially in regards to reclining, the chair is still pretty good. The only deal-breaker could be the price, yet the weight capacity is impressive.
5. VOUNOT Garden Textilene Relaxer (Pair)
Buy from Manomano.co.uk
I have been thoroughly impressed with their build quality and ease of use. These chairs are sold as a pair and can hold a maximum load of 100kg each, making them perfect for sitting and relaxing in any outdoor or indoor space.
One of the standout features of these chairs is their comfort. The headrest cushion, armrests, and footrests all contribute to a truly weightless experience when reclined almost horizontally known as zero gravity. And, with the ability to adjust the angle to your desired position and lock it in place, you can find the perfect angle for relaxation. Additionally, the non-slip feet provide added stability to ensure you can sit back and relax without any worries.
The frame of these chairs is made of steel and the fabric is textilene, both of which contribute to the durability and weather-resistance of the chairs. The textilene fabric is also UV resistant, ensuring a long lifespan even when used in the sun. Plus, the manufacturer claims that the use of ecological materials helps to reduce the potential toxicity of the chairs, making them a more environmentally friendly choice.
Overall, I highly recommend the VOUNOT Garden chairs. Their comfortable design, adjustability, and durability make them a great addition to any outdoor or indoor space. And, with their lightweight design, they’re easy to move around to wherever you want to relax.
Pros
- Suitable for a variety of places; living room, garden, lounge, poolside, etc.
- Comes with a headrest, armrests and footrests for added comfort.
- Easily adjustable as needed.
- With non-slip feet for improved stability.
- UV- and corrosion-resistant fabric for longevity.
Cons
- A bit lower on weight limit compared to many.
Our recommendation
If you want to enjoy the sunshine without spending that much on a zero gravity chair, this pair is a great choice. You get two chairs for the price of one like some of the other models, and they are well designed to provide absolute comfort thanks to a headrest, armrests and footrest.
The cool mesh fabric will allow your skin to breathe whilst you relax, and the steel-coated frame ensures maximum durability. You can even transport the fun to your picnic or camping trip. They do have some flaws, but I still consider them to be the best low-cost zero gravity chair.
Buyer’s Guide
Zero gravity chairs have become more popular than ever and they are now available in many of the big stores across the UK. It’s easy to spot one in your neighbour’s patio, garden, balcony, or even in the living room. And they do offer many benefits, among them:
They get you in a position of total relaxation, helping you ease muscle tension in that weightless position. This type of chair can also improve blood circulation due to the way it elevates your legs above the heart.
A zero gravity chair also makes a great reading chair and is good for watching TV or even gaming. Some portable versions can be folded and transported elsewhere such as a beach or park for lounging there too.
When looking for the best zero gravity chair, there are a number of factors that will influence your decision. Let’s break them down below.
Comfort
Well, this is probably the main reason why you want a zero gravity chair. The fabric should be easy on your skin, especially for those folks who like removing their tops when it’s hot. Mesh fabrics are some of the best because they’re breathable and can help keep you cool during the peak of summer.
For added comfort, think about headrest pillows, footrests, and armrests, which combined do the magic to offer limb support, particularly for taller people. Cushions would be a welcome touch but go for ones that are easy to clean by just wiping down.
Adjustability
As you would expect, zero gravity chairs are all adjustable, but there’s a slight difference between one model and another in terms of the number of reclining positions. If you’re planning to share the chair with members of your family, the more adjustable positions the better for all of you. In addition, there’s always a locking mechanism that lets you lock your desired position in place.
Portability
Many zero gravity chairs are lightweight and portable, so if you are intending to take your piece of furniture on trips, be sure to confirm the dimensions and weight. The ability to fold the chair makes it easy to transport and store, so check if the design of a chair allows that to happen.
Weight capacity
As you have seen from the model reviews above, every chair has a certain weight limit. It’s up to you to decide the chair that will suit your need in that respect. Extra-large chairs are ideal for big or taller people, and the DQCHAIR Outdoor Reclining Zero Gravity Chair with its 200kg capacity is a good choice, for instance. Anything with a weight limit of 100kg should suffice for most adults.
Construction materials
Materials and build quality are crucial factors as far as durability of your zero gravity goes. Most chairs are made of steel frames, which are obviously very strong. Those with powder coating can last even longer because they are highly resistant to rust and corrosion as long as the finish is done well.
Non-slip feet are a good thing because they improve stability, while the fabric should be weatherproof as well as quick-drying, just in case it gets wet. A cup holder is always a plus if available.
Warranty
Zero gravity chair manufacturers tend to provide anywhere from 1 to 2 years warranty, which covers all parts. Thing is, these chairs have no complicated moving parts, so as far as you use them for their right purpose, there’s little chance of anything going wrong. Nevertheless, make sure to go through the terms and conditions of a warranty to know what’s covered.
