There’s just one key thing to look for in an induction hob kettle – that the base is layered with stainless steel, aluminium and iron to produce the necessary magnetic induction field. Beyond that, you’re spoiled for choice in the size, shape and style of induction kettles to choose from.

In this review, I present a variety of the Best Induction Hob Kettles, along with their pros, cons and features, and then make my recommendations. My Buyer’s Guide discusses how to approach the various choices you need to make to ensure that your induction kettle is the best one for your needs.

Best Pick

Pykal Whistling Tea Kettle with iCool
This 3L (max fill 2.8L) tea kettle has a thick five-layer induction plate in the base that heats the water evenly and quickly on your induction hob. The iCool technology in the handle dissipates the heat there quickly, but be careful anyway as you pick the kettle up. The loud whistle sounds when the water is boiling and is audible one or more rooms away - you won't miss it. This is a stylish and safe kettle you’ll want to leave out on the hob and is well worth considering if you like the style.

Best Budget Pick

SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle
This SUSTEAS kettle works on your induction hob and on any other stove top. It has an unusual black and gold colour combination. But be careful as the gold part of the handle is metal and heats up. Be sure to use the (included) silicone mitt when you touch the handle. The induction plate is of three layers of metal for even heating. The maximum fill line is for 2.6L of water, that's about four cups of tea or coffee. This is the least expensive induction hob kettle in our review and it whistles when the water is ready, you cant beat the sound of a whistling kettle.

Induction Hob Kettles Reviews

1. Pykal Whistling Tea Kettle with iCool – Handle (3L)

Best Pick

Buy from Amazon.co.uk

Pykal Whistling Tea Kettle for Stove Top - 2.8l - Stainless Steel iCool Handle Tea Pot - 5 PLY Kettles - Teapot w/ 2 Infusers Also for Gas Hob or Induction Heater

The Pykal Whistling Tea Kettle with its iCool Handle is an updated version of the traditional round style kettle. The body of the kettle is in satin-finish stainless steel, the base and the lid are in a shiny version of the same material and the handle is in a soft grip black material with the proprietary iCool technology. This hob kettle looks stylish and keeps you safe at the same time. It really is a great piece of kit.

This is a 3L kettle that actually holds 2.8L of water for its best use – no water spitting up the spout or out the lid. It’s compatible with all other stove tops as well as induction ones so you can use it anywhere, even on your AGA.

The induction plate in the base is of five layers, rather than the regular three. Iron (for weight and heat retention) is sandwiched between layers of aluminium (for even heat and fast boiling) which, in turn, are between layers of food-grade stainless steel that’s strong and rust-resistant. This powerful metal sandwich forms the magnetic field that makes the Pykal hob kettle such a powerful appliance on your induction range.

I mentioned the iCool technology in the handle and the spout knob that is positioned on the handle. This quickly wicks away heat from the handle, so you just wait a few seconds after the kettle whistles loudly to say the water is boiling before you can pick the kettle up. However, some online reviewers report that the iCool technology doesn’t completely cool down the handle, so try it out cautiously first; you may need to use oven mitts instead.

Tea drinkers (like me) are happy to discover that the purchase includes a set of two tea infusers. Just fill one of these with loose tea leaves, put it in your cup or teapot, pour the boiling water over it and let all that goodness brew.

 Pros

  • Food-grade stainless steel induction kettle with 3L capacity.
  • Five layer base for even and quick heating.
  • Compatible with all stove tops, including induction.
  • iCool handle in black has a soft grip and contains the push button for opening the spout.
  • Satin finish stainless steel except for the lid and wide base.
  • Whistles loudly when the water is ready.
  • Includes two black and stainless steel tea infusers.
  • One-year warranty from the manufacturer for extra peace of mind.

Cons

  • Very loud whistle (also a plus point).

Our recommendation

I’ve made the Pykal Whistling Tea Kettle with its iCool handle my Best Pick of the Induction Hob Kettles in my review.

The Pykal Whistling Tea Kettle with iCool – Handle is a stylish 2L hob kettle that works well on an induction hob plate. The five layers of metal in its induction plate ensure that the water boils quickly and evenly.

The loud whistle informs you (and anyone else around) that the water has boiled. The iCool handle technology takes heat away from the handle so you don’t burn yourself picking it up which is a big plus as not all models have this.

2. SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle

Best Budget Pick

Buy on Amazon.co.uk

SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle-Surgical Stainless Steel Teakettle Teapot with Cool Touch Ergonomic Handle, with 1 Silicone Pinch Mitt Included,3L (Black)

The SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle (3L) is perfect for an induction hob with its three-layer base of iron within aluminium within surgical-grade stainless steel. This metal base makes up the magnetic induction plate and ensures a quick and even heating of the kettle on your induction hob.

As with most other hob kettles, the capacity is given, in this case, 3L. This SUSTEAS kettle is best used with 2.6L of water – just fill up to the maximum fill line to be sure of the right amount. Anything over this might let water spit out of the spout and lid and may stop the whistle from working.

This kettle has a matte black finish over the body of the shape; half the handle is black cool-touch material. The other part of the handle, the lid and the spout are gold – this is an unusual colour combination. But you need to be aware that the gold colour is in fact metal – and that heats up when the kettle does.

Unfortunately, the knob to open the spout is on the (hot) metal part of the handle so you must remember to use an oven mitt to pick up the is kettle. However, the manufacturer helps you out in this by including a silicone mini-mitt with your purchase. You just have to remember to use it.

This kettle whistles loud enough to be heard from several rooms away when the water is boiling. This is the least expensive of the induction kettles in our review and it is also available in red.

Pros

  • Matte black stainless steel hob kettle with black and gold ergonomic handle.
  • Push button on handle to open spout covering.
  • Capacity is 3L although it is suggested to fill it to no more than 2.6L for best use.
  • Three layer base for faster and more even heating.
  • Kettle whistles when the water is boiling.
  • Included mini silicone mitt to pick up the kettle when the water is hot.
  • Dimensions: 23.5cm (height); 18.2cm (diameter).

Cons

  • Part of the handle is metal and heats up.
  • Some kettles rusted quickly.

Our recommendation

The SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle is a rounded style kettle in black and gold, with a brushed metal manufacturer’s logo plate on the side. The max fill line is at 2.6L and not 3L, and I recommend that you don’t overfill it.

You must remember to always pick it up with the (included) silicone mitt as half the handle is metal and that heats up. (The other half is cool touch technology, but you still need to press the open spout button on the hot side).

I select the SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle (3L) as our Budget Pick, despite its one flaw. It’s one of the larger kettles in our review. It heats water up quickly and looks good left out on your induction stove.

Best Drip Kettle

Buy on Amazon.co.uk

No products found.

The Coffee Gator Gooseneck Pour Over Kettle (1L) may seem small if you’re used to making larger quantities of tea or coffee, but it is designed for those who make hand-drip coffee or small pots of luxury tea. The gooseneck spout is engineered for precision flow to pour slowly and carefully into the receiving carafe or teapot. It’s perfectly suited for use on an induction hob.

All the features of this drip kettle support the care and precision it promotes. The surgical grade brushed stainless steel is chosen and styled for both best performance and visual appeal. The black cool-touch handle is ergonomically designed so you can carefully control the pour from the spout. The base has three layers which create the magnetic plate so that the water boils evenly and quickly so the best tasting tea or coffee.

As premium coffee and tea doesn’t usually need boiling water, this Coffee Gator Gooseneck induction kettle has an inbuilt thermometer on the lid. You can monitor the temperature the water reaches and take the kettle off when it reaches the appropriate one (for example, green tea is best brewed between 76°C and 82°C). The part of the temperature gauge marked in a teal colour indicates the best range for hot water for tea and coffee.

Pros

  • Brushed stainless steel hob kettle with a gooseneck spout and ergonomic black handle.
  • Thermometer on top of the lid tells you what temperature the water has reached.
  • Precision-flow spout for careful dripping of water over coffee or tea.
  • Full capacity is 1L but fill with less water to avoid spilling.
  • Base has three layers for quick heating on the induction hob or any stovetop.
  • Dimensions: 13cm (height).

Cons

  • Doesn’t whistle when water is boiling.
  • Lid can be insecure when pouring the last of the water out.

Our recommendation

The Coffee Gator Gooseneck Pour Over Kettle gives you precision control over the temperature and pour of your hot water. This is a great choice if you need hot but not boiling water for your premium teas and coffees. The maximum fill capacity is just 0.6L, so expect just a couple of cups from this drip hob kettle.

4. Le Creuset Traditional Stove – Top Kettle (2.1L)

Buy on Amazon.co.uk

Le Creuset Traditional Stove-Top Kettle with Whistle, Suitable for All Hob Types Including Induction, Enamelled Steel, Capacity: 2.1 L, Black Onyx, 40102021400000

The Le Creuset Traditional Stove-Top Kettle with Whistle works on all stovetop types, including induction hobs. Le Creuset is world-renowned for its excellent cookware and high prices) but this kettle is a comparable price to most of the others in our review.

This Le Creuset kettle is made of carbon steel, enamelled in black (three layers) for a shiny finish. The stainless steel won’t warp and the enamel won’t corrode, making for a durable hob kettle. The regular Le Creuset five-year warranty also lets you know the high quality of this kitchen appliance.

The kettle is a traditional shape that’s a little more rectangular than the other models I look at. The full handle, lid knob and spout lever are all of a matte black, cool touch material making this kettle safe to deal with all round. The base of the kettle is slightly widened for added stability on the stove.

The capacity of this kettle is 2.1L, and that’s actually the volume of water you can put into it. (Unlike the other models where the maximum fill is less than the stated capacity). A loud whistle informs you when the water is boiling, even if you’re in the next room or down the hall.

Pros

  • Black enamelled carbon steel induction hob kettle in a traditional design.
  • Black resin-based handle is heat resistant as is the knob on the lid.
  • Capcity is 2.1L and fills to this maximum.
  • Suitable for all stove tops, including induction, ceramic and AGAs.
  • Thumb button on the spout opens and closes the covering for pouring water.
  • Loudly whistles when the water is boiling.
  • Five-year warranty.
  • Dimensions: 27.6cm (height) and 25.1cm (diameter).

Cons

  • Takes a while to bring water to the boil.
  • Hot water sometimes spits out of the spout, especially if filled to the max.

Our recommendation

The Le Creuset Traditional Stove-Top Kettle with Whistle receives many good reviews online, but I do admit I was also swayed a bit by the excellent reputation of the company. This is a sleek induction hob kettle with minimalist, yet traditional lines that will heat water efficiently. Use it to its full capacity of 2.1L for three cups of hot beverage. The five-year warranty is unusual in this field.

5. Weftnom Whistling Tea Kettle for Stovetop (3.5L)

Buy on Amazon.co.uk

Whistling Tea Kettle for Stovetop, 3.5L Stainless Steel Tea Pot with Cool Ergonomic Folding Handle, Rainbow Induction Kettles for Boiling Water, Mirror Finish

The Weftnom Whistling Tea Kettle for Stovetop is the largest induction hob kettle in our review. Its full capacity is 3.5L though the manufacturer recommends only filling it to the 3.0L line. Even so, it still boils more water than any other model I have reviewed.

Several other features set this apart from its competitors. Like just the Pylak kettle (our Best Pick), its magnetic induction plate is a five-layer sandwich of iron (inside), aluminium (surrounding layers) and stainless steel (outer layers). This combination of metals enables the heat to be dispersed evenly to the kettle’s bottom and for the water to heat quickly.

This Weftnom kettle has a broader base than most other hob kettles – but it fits in with its style. The broader base puts more metal in contact with the induction hob for faster heating. The lid and the kettle handles, along with the spout lever, are made of Bakelite. This makes them heat resistant, but I’m not sure how hot they do get. Have an oven mitt handy the first time you use the kettle and touch the handle cautiously.

It’s easy to open the spout using the lever on it and the kettle loudly whistles to let you know the water’s boiling.

And the colour of the kettle is also unique. There’s a “Rainbow” mirror finish to the stainless steel. Some online reviewers state that this is a combination of blue, purple and green, but the sales photos show a full range of rainbow colours. As for storing the kettle, the handle folds down to decrease the height of the unit to a handy 16cm.

Pros

  • Rainbow mirror finish, stainless steel kettle with a 3.5L capacity (but use to 3L line only).
  • Food grade stainless steel is easy to clean.
  • Bottom has five layers for quick and even heating.
  • Broad base of the kettle ensures its stability on your stove.
  • Ergonomic handle has a soft grip finish and folds for storage.
  • Heat resistant lid stays cool to the touch.
  • Thumb button on the spout flips up the opening to pour the water.
  • Kettle whistles when the water is ready.
  • Dimensions: 22.5cm (high); and 21.9cm (base diameter); 16cm (height when handle folded down).

Cons

  • Whistle is very loud (also a Pro point).

Our recommendation

If you’re looking for a large kettle, the Weftnom Whistling Tea Kettle heats 3L of water at a time. The Bakelite handles and spout lever keep cool and the kettle whistles loudly when the water is boiling. It also folds up smaller if you want to store it in a cupboard out of the way. And the rainbow mirror finish is very cool.

Buyer’s Guide

Once you’ve ensured that the hob kettle you’re considering has the necessary multi-layer induction base (usually a stainless steel, aluminium and iron sandwich or layers) to work on an induction hob, you’re free to select the form and function of the kettle that suits your lifestyle.

My Buyer’s Guide discusses what other features to be aware of.

 Material

You need a strong material for an induction kettle and most of those available are made of stainless steel. Some have a shiny finish, others are of brushed material and yet more are enamelled in particular colours.

Stainless steel itself doesn’t rust or tarnish, but online reviewers have reported signs of rusting where the steel is welded to other materials. This is found in all mixed metal appliances and is a common problem.

The iron in the base of the kettle is for the magnetic field but tends to add to the weight of the kettle. Be aware of how much the kettle when fully filled with water weighs. Remember for every litre of water, that add 1kg of weight to the kettle.

Induction hob kettle for fast boiling water

Size

Obviously, you need to buy a kettle that suits the requirements of yourself and your family members. But during our research, I found that the capacity volume given for the kettles are misleading.

You would think that a 3L kettle holds 3L of water, and that is so. But, you can only fill the kettle to the maximum fill line and that’s usually 0.2L to 0.4L less than the stated capacity.

So, a 3.5L capacity kettle, (such as the Weftnom one in our review), can only take 3.0L of water. This is because at the stated capacity, water may come up through the spout and out the lid, and the whistling function (if present) won’t work.

So ignore the capacity given in the sales photos and on the box and look for the maximum fill volume instead.

And also check the diameter of the base of the kettle. Some of the models in our review have wider bases for more heating area and increased stability. Check whether your induction hob is large enough for these kettles.

Handle

Look for induction kettles that have some kind of cool-touch technology for their handles. This may be in the form of proprietary technology that quickly cools the handle down, or perhaps a rubber soft-grip handle. Or the company may supply a silicone oven mitt for you to grab the handle with.

Look carefully at the handle, though. One of the models we review, the SUSTEAS kettle, has a black handle that also has a metal part that gets hot.

Look also at where the button/handle for opening the spout is. It may be on the kettle handle itself or you may have to reach down to the spout to push it. Your own manual dexterity determines which option is better for you.

kettle with a whistle standing on an induction hob during testing

Whistle

If you tend to put the kettle on, walk away and forget about it, invest in a model that has a, preferably loud, whistle. Manufacturers of some of the kettles in this review claim that you can hear their whistle from the next room.

Style and colour

You’re on your own for this large category. Even though we include a wide variety of styles and colours of kettles in our review, there’s plenty more out there. If you intend to leave your kettle sitting out on the hob, it’s worth spending some time choosing one with an appearance that makes you smile.

Final Conclusion

All the induction hob kettles in this review are designed especially to be used on these kinds of stovetop, along with others including gas, electric, ceramic and halogen. The layered base of stainless steel, aluminium and iron produces the magnetic charge needed for the kettle to perform on the induction stove. Beyond that, you have many choices of size, style and colour for your induction kettle. I include a wide range in this review.

My Best Pick is the Pykal Whistling Tea Kettle with iCool Handle. This hob kettle comes with two tea infusers and a high-tech cooled handle. Overall it’s a great induction kettle.

Our second choice qualifies as the Best Budget Pick. The SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle is stylish is black and gold, and has a whistle loud enough to hear from another room.
